WHO: The Million Pound March is being organized by the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, our nation's premiere size acceptance advocacy organization. Corporate sponsors include Fat Bastard Sportswear, Gut Reaction, Bodacious Babes, and Big on Batik. Celebrities and elected representatives have been invited, as well as representatives of other human and civil rights movements.
WHAT: The Million Pound March is a gathering (not a "march" per se) of people all sizes of large and their allies. The gathering will allow people of all sizes to come together to oppose the intolerance, degradation, discrimination, and isolation that fat people live with in a culture obsessed with thinness, and in which fat people are exploited by a diet industry that perpetuates myths and stereotypes about fat people. The event will consist of a variety of inspirational messages, songs, performances, and a group hug. The goal of the March is to unify in pride and inspire others to live their dreams and their lives to the fullest, regardless of size. The March is being held in conjunction with NAAFA's 1998 Convention, to be held August 11-16 at the Los Angeles Airport Westin Hotel.
WHEN: Saturday, August 15, 1998, 10:00 am - 11:30 am
WHERE: Palisades Park, Santa Monica, California. Media representatives should check in at the media table in the park.
