The National
Association to Advance Fat Acceptance presents
NAAFA's
Memorial Day Weekend Event
Annual
NAAFA Fundraiser
”UNITED WE STAND”
Welcome summer the NAAFA way! Join us as we stand united for friendship, fun, support and acceptance in the San Francisco Bay area. The Memorial Day weekend festivities will include entertainment, dances, fashions and excitement galore. Go home with a new attitude! It happens:
May 24-27, 2002 at the Westin Hotel in Millbrae, California -- just a few short miles from San Francisco.
What better way to start your summer than with wonderful and informative workshops, exciting entertainment, and tons of fabulous fashions designed with you in mind! Now is your chance to be reacquainted with old friends and meet new and exciting people from all over.
Dancing The Nights Away
We can't think of a better way to kick things off on Friday night than with a spectacular dance. You can kick up your heels and get down to the sounds of the party. If that isn't enough boogie time for you, you'll get a chance to strut your stuff once again with the Saturday night semi-formal dinner dance. You will get the chance to shine, dine and dance the night away.
NOTE: Remember if you are attending events and not staying at the Westin you may pick up your parking voucher at NAAFA Registration.
Let's Do Brunch
Enjoy a plentiful brunch followed by a sweet treat. Joann Ikeda, M.A., R.D. University of California at Berkeley Dietitian and Nutritionist specializing in childhood obesity will be our guest speaker on Saturday, May 25.
Shop 'Til You Drop
If you always wanted to shop in a place full of clothing, accessories and more designed especially for large people, then you won't want to miss our fantastic Trunk Show. Whether you are looking for the perfect touch or a brand new wardrobe, you will be sure to find it here. We will be open all day Saturday and Sunday, so be sure to pack an extra suitcase if you plan
on stocking up on summer fashions.
Eat, Swim and Laugh, Laugh, Laugh
Sunday night, May 26 is our special pool party. A dinner buffet will be served, and then it is time to stay cool by the pool. Whether you want to bask in the moonlight, admire the full-figured bathing beauties or make a big splash of your own, you won't want to miss the highlight of the
evening, A pool side fashion show with lots of beautiful bathing beauties. This evening will surely be the highlight of the weekend.
Extraordinary Workshops
From yoga, water aerobics and including movement in our lives to issues on flying as a fat person, dealing with friends who are getting weight-loss surgery and learning about the recent anti-height/weight-discrimination laws in San Francisco, we have plenty of poignant and affirming workshops planned.
Goodbye and Good Health
We can say our good-byes at a wonderful farewell brunch and speaker. Actor comedian Diane Bliss. Ms. Bliss is the founder of the Plus-Size Task Force associated with the National Women’s Committee of the Screen Actors Guild. You won't want to miss what she has to say about the entertainment industry and the changes she looks forward to in the coming year.
The City By The Bay
For those wishing to explore one of America's great cities, a scenic tour is available for conference attendees. Sunday afternoon will be a must for all out-of-towners when we will provide an optional city tour of San Francisco.
