How To Find Health Insurance |
First Steps
- Know the laws in your state. To find an easy to understand summary of state regulations visit http://www.healthinsuranceindepth.com/individual-state-guides.html
Click on your state and find out whether you can legally be denied insurance or if the price of premiums can be determined by health.
- If you can be denied or your medical history can be used when determining price, you can look at an example of the underwriting process to see where you may lie in the spectrum of insurance coverage. www.continentalgeneral.com/agents/DUG-00.pdf
- There are some trade organizations/not-for-profit groups that offer group health insurance to members. This would involve becoming a member of that group as well as pay for the insurance yourself. There are a few really great resources to start with.
- Most states also have “High Risk pools” that anyone can obtain insurance through. Mostly the price is determined by your age and location. The costs of this can be many times higher than standard insurance rates. You can access your states insurance office through the above state-by-state guide and find information there.
